Facelift and Neck lift in Dubai

What is facelift and necklift surgery?

Facelift and necklift surgeries are cosmetic procedures that elevate the skin and tighten the underlying tissues to give the face and neck a defined shape and sharper contours. Facelift and Necklift can be performed as individual processes, and they can be combined too. While facelift surgery treats skin drooping of the lower face and removes deep creases formed around the mouth or nose, necklift surgery creates a more refined-looking neck and chin. Together, they are used to rejuvenate the cheek, midface, jawline, or neck areas. These surgeries are majorly performed on patients who are 50 years of age or older.

Types of facelifts

Skin lift

A skin lift helps reduce the sagging skin on the cheeks and jawline and other facial shape changes due to ageing.

SMAS lift

The SMAS lift is a very powerful lift with lasting results. SMAS stands for the sub-muscular aponeurotic system, a very thin muscle layer under the skin. The SMAS lift restores a youthful appearance to the face by repositioning these muscles under the skin.

SMAS Plication

The SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) plication is another popular facial rejuvenation technique. It involves folding the SMAS with subsequent suturing to apply tension and make your face look sharper.

Deep plain facelift/short scar facelift

This facelift is suited for patients with majorly lower face concerns. It involves repositioning the deeper facial soft-tissue layers to make the face look well-curved and beautiful.

How is the surgery performed?

Step-1 Preparation

The patient is sedated with general anesthesia or twilight anesthesia. Then the surgeon injects an adrenaline solution beneath the skin. This is done to separate the skin layers from underlying soft tissues.

Step 2-Making an Incision

To lift the skin, the surgeon makes an incision on both sides of the face, which is extended along the crease in front of the ear, then around underneath the earlobe, and into the lower scalp inside the hairline. If the facelift surgery has to be combined with a necklift, the surgeon may make a small incision under the chin.

Step 3- Face sculpting

Then, without disturbing the deeper tissues, the skin is lifted, and the surgeon makes the desired alterations. It may include removing and repositioning the excess fat to give a full look to the face.

Step 4- Skin resurfacing

The skin is tightened and then stitched tightly to the solid structures in front of and behind the ear. Excess skin is trimmed, and the remaining skin is sewn into position.

Step 5- Closing the incision.

Finally, the surgeon closes the incisions with sutures or sealed with skin glues. Once the cuts are healed, they are well concealed within the hairline and natural contours of the face and ears.

Post-surgery recovery

  • The doctor will guide you with specific instructions on medications and precautions to take as the skin heals.
  • It is advised that you shouldn’t resume your daily activities until a fortnight after the surgery. This time of relaxation is necessary for the incision scars to hide in the hairline.
  • Avoid strenuous activities.
  • Avoid your skin from direct exposure to the sunlight as it can interfere with the final results of your facelift.
  • Attend all the follow-ups set up by the doctor. This is the only way to ensure that your doctor can track your healing process and guide you in resuming routine activities step-by-step.

FAQs about facelift and necklift

Facelift surgery usually takes two to four hours, but it might take longer if other cosmetic procedures are combined with it.

In general, you can expect to make a full recovery in about two to four weeks, but that doesn’t mean you have to take all that time off.

Since the surgery is performed under anaesthesia, you won’t feel any discomfort during the surgery. There will be some pain during the recovery, but it is a part of the healing process. However, the pain can be managed with medications and cold compresses.
